After spending the past year primarily in Japan, I am pleased to announce that development on MAL-Badges is resuming. Over the last year, I had the opportunity to connect with several members of the MyAnimeList community, including former and current staff. However, I am not yet fully updated on all the changes that have occurred during my time away.
For the next two to three weeks, I will be taking the time to catch up on updates, as well as enjoying the holiday season with Christmas and New Year celebrations. During this period, preparations will also begin for a significant update: a server migration scheduled for February 2025.
Server Migration and Downtime Notice
In February 2025, the MAL-Badges website will experience temporary downtime for several days to one week. This downtime is necessary to transition from our current dedicated server to a co-located server. This decision follows the hardware-related outage we encountered in February/March 2024, during which external support was limited.
The new co-located server is a significant upgrade, offering approximately four times the performance of the current system. Moreover, by owning the hardware and having physical control, we aim to minimize future downtime. To further enhance reliability, two trusted friends with physical access to the server will assist with maintenance and support, ensuring quicker resolutions when I am abroad.
